In 1977 Mr. Lam Thuy Synh (aka Vo Van No), his wife and children left Vietnam in search of religious freedom and in pursue of a decent life in the United States of America. Their American dreams came true after 27 years of working and living in Chicago. All of his children, except the youngest one, have graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago:

The youngest son, Hoa Quang Vo, is a student at Northwestern University, preparing for becoming a dentist in the near future.

Together with his two younger brothers, Mr. Vo founded and directed the Vo’s Graphics and Printing business as a way and means of living. He has also worked as the editor of the Chicago Viet Times—a successful Vietnamese bi-weekly newsmagazine in Chicagoland areas. Through this newspaper, Mr. No V. Vo and his associates have done numerous volunteer services to the community, including the following fundraising events to help the poor, the needy, and victims of natural disasters:

In addition to the above mentioned charities services, the Vo family has made countless hours of volunteer work as well as cash contributions to Truc-Lam Buddhist Temple of Chicago, which opened its new door 7 years ago.

 

In response to an interview by Joseph Nguyen, Mr. Vo said: “The donations we had received were a result of a cooperative community effort of everyone at the Chicago Viet Times. Make no mistake that this is a personal work. Please make certain that it was a cooperative effort of everyone in the community.” He added: “As a Buddhist, I just wanted to practice the teaching of Buddha—Love others like you love yourself.”
